NYC CLC/NYCOSH 2015
Safety and Health Series
Preventing Workplace Assault
and Violence
Workplace violence accounts for approximately 10% of all job-related fatalities in this country. Several steps are being taken to help control and minimize the risk:
- NYS enacted the workplace violence prevention law to protect most public sector workers
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued citations under the general duty clause
- OSHA has developed guidance documents for several industries
- Local and state legislative proposals
- Unions are advocating for a national standard
This forum will examine those measures that have been taken and discuss what we need to do.
