2019 LGBTQ Tennessee Youth Summit, 50 Years From Stonewall: Honoring Our Roots
GLSEN Tennessee's SHINE team and the Oasis Center's Students of Stonewall team are excited to announce the 2019 LGBTQ Youth Summit! This year's theme is 50 Years From Stonewall: Honoring Our Roots. Attendees will have opportunities to learn about incredible LGBTQ history, learn more about present-day realities, and connect to resources. The day's activities will feature an incredible keynote speaker, DeLesslin "Roo" George-Warren, who is a queer youth artist, researcher, and activist from Catawba Indian Nation (more below). Workshops available throughout the day will explore topics including LGBTQ politics, youth activism, transgender health, and sexual education. Please register below, and share with friends who would be interested! All LGBTQ youth and their allies are welcome to join!

For the first time ever, we will be hosting a parents and adult ally track! For all of the adult allies interested in learning more about LGBTQI youth issues, a track specifically will be hosted around these issues! Please indicate if this is your track in the registration below.

DeLesslin “Roo” George-Warren is a queer artist, researcher, and activist from Catawba Indian Nation. He has given lectures and performances throughout the east coast including College of Charleston, Vanderbilt University, Ithaca College, and more. His recent projects include indigenous tours of the Smithsonian’s Presidential Portrait Gallery which recount how US Presidents promoted colonization and genocide of indigenous peoples (indigenousdiscovery.com). He is currently working with his community to revitalize the Catawba Language (facebook.com/catawbalanguage) as part of the 2017 Dreamstarter Grant from Running Strong for American Indian Youth. DeLesslin currently has work on display with Honor the Earth’s travelling exhibition The Art of Indigenous Resistance. DeLesslin participated in the 2016 ISSP class.
