Marla Maples threw in the towel in her slugfest with Donald Trump yesterday, giving the billionaire developer a divorce under the terms of a prenuptial agreement that leaves her a paltry $2 million. The Georgia peach then turned bulldog and ripped The Donald for failing to provide her and their 5-year-old daughter, Tiffany, with a better deal. "After giving Donald two years to honor the verbal commitments he made to me during our 12-year relationship, I decided to walk away completely under the terms of our prenuptial agreement that had been placed before me just five days before our 1993 wedding," she said. Though $2 million may seem like a fortune, pals said that for Maples, it probably means tightening her belt. "While she was married to Donald, she had the very best of everything," a friend said. "Now she's a single mother trying to make a living the best way she can. . . . She has to maintain a certain profile.

" Maples, 35, said she was giving up against the advice of her attorneys to avoid a bitter public trial so soon after her draining courtroom confrontation with former press agent Chuck Jones. Jones, convicted last month of burglarizing Maples' Manhattan apartment in 1992, harangued her during cross-examination at a trial in which he represented himself. "I decided to move on with my life, both on a personal and professional basis," Maples said from her home in Los Angeles, where she is pursuing her acting career. "I wish Marla well," Trump, 52, said in an interview. "I'm glad it worked out so amicably.

" Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Joan Lobis sealed the deal yesterday that ended the five-year marriage. Neither Trump, who says he's worth at least $5 billion, nor Maples was present. The union reportedly faltered when Trump's interest in business and society overwhelmed Maples' attempts to create a traditional home life. The couple separated May 2, 1997, months shy of a milestone in their prenup that would have upped Maples' settlement. She battled for two years to break the prenup that she says she signed under duress two days before their Dec. 23, 1993, wedding at The Plaza hotel. She had given birth to Tiffany in October. Trump's lawyer, Stanford Lotwin, said the deal is iron-clad: "She knew what she was giving up, and she certainly knew what she was getting.

" Experts say the $2 million probably isn't taxable. But Maples faces significant expenses in trying to jump-start her acting career. "It takes money in this town to become a star," said veteran Hollywood manager Jan McCormack. Maples' managers, publicists, agents and lawyers need to be paid. Then there is the rent on her trendy Benedict Canyon digs, fees for acting classes and the price of personal training sessions. Add hair, nail and skin-care appointments, and the costs skyrocket. Her pals say Maples will make out just fine. "Because she is a survivor and such a good person, I would bet that her future will be brighter than Donald Trump," one said.
