In 2017, Chemical Peels stole the limelight as it was the number 1 service provided by medical spas throughout the country. Since the medispa industry is receiving a surge in popularity this year, more and more women are inquiring about various treatments.

Researchers suggest that the U.S. medical spa industry will nearly double in size, reaching approximately $6 billion by 2022. With this newly found knowledge, what treatments would you offer your clients to reap the biggest return on your investment?

Here are the top revenue-generating treatments women couldn’t get enough of 2018:

Botox

Botox is the injection of botulinum toxin. Botox, also referred to as Dysport or Xeomin has become increasingly popular for reducing wrinkles and rejuvenating a maturing face.

Botox can be injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines and glabellar lines or injected into the area around the side of the eyes to improve the look of crow’s feet lines in adults.

Botox was first granted U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval to treat frown lines in 2002. Today, Botox remains one of the most popular cosmetic procedures on the market, and its popularity continues to skyrocket. So much so, that the botox procedures performed has grown 819% percent since 2000.

Dermal Fillers

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers are a type of temporary dermal filler or soft tissue filler. Injectable HA is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, facial folds, and to create structure and improve the volume of the face and lips.

Hyaluronic acid is found naturally throughout the body, with the highest amounts found in the joints, eyes, and skin. In the skin, hyaluronic acid attracts water, which allows the skin to become more hydrated and supple. When injectable HA is used, patients claim the results are almost seen immediately.

The FDA has approved several absorbable dermal fillers for uses such as lip and cheek augmentation in patients over the age of 21, and the correction of contour deficiencies, such as wrinkles and acne scars. With “fuller-lips” becoming a trend in 2018, the percentage of soft tissue fillers has grown by 321% since 2000.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal treatments is the process of removing hair by exposing the hair shaft to pulses of laser light to destroy the hair follicle. It has been experimentally performed for about 20 years before the FDA approved the first commercial lasers for these treatments in 1997.

This treatment is fairly new, because of this, experts expect that there is still a risk of providing this treatment. However, there is still hope for revenue gains. The U.S. Western region is the most popular for laser hair removal treatments, accounting for 31% of the industry revenues. The East Coast generates another 22% of revenues in the United States.

The number of laser hair removal procedures performed in the U.S. has grown by 51% since 2000.

Body Contouring

Body sculpting, also called body contouring, is the term used to describe a wide variety of aesthetic plastic surgery or non-surgical procedures designed to reshape and improve the appearance of your body.

Aesthetic plastic surgery procedures like Tummy Tucks have become increasingly popular over the recent years. Non-surgical procedures like CoolSculpting, which is the only FDA approved treatment that freezes, kills and eliminates the fat cells, is also a form of body sculpting.

The percentage of body sculpting procedures conducted in the U.S has increased by more than 104% since 2000.

Dermabrasion Facials

Microdermabrasion is used as a method of exfoliation, as well as to treat light scarring, discoloration and sun damage, and stretch marks.

Treatments include using a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer. The percentage of microdermabrasion procedures performed in the U.S. has actually dropped more than 8% since 1997 .

HydraFacial is a new and improved form of dermabrasion that cleanses, extracts and hydrates the skin. HydraFacial works similarly to a traditional microdermabrasion treatment but instead of using abrasive particles, it uses hydrating serum followed by glycolic and salicylic acids to excrete dead skin cells.

Since news of this new form of dermabrasion facials, percentages are expected to increase during the new year.

Throughout 2018, these previously mentioned treatments have been eagerly sought-after. Clients claim that procedures like HydraFacials, CoolSculpting, and Hyaluronic Acid Fillers have promising results and statistics that prove that these treatments guarantee a generous reward on investments.
