Each specialised skillset will enable participants to apply the latest research and best practices to improve wellbeing within their specific educational setting.

By watching the pre-recorded videos, participants will immediately apply the skillsets in their own context through project-based breakouts. Participants will continue to learn and apply their skills through online learning activities and a major project-based capstone that will give them the opportunity to develop their own educational wellbeing initiative.

The Practising Certificate for Wellbeing in Education consists of 6 specialised skillsets to enable participants to apply the latest research and best practices to improve wellbeing within their specific educational setting.

1. What is wellbeing and why does it matter?
Schools today are facing unprecedented levels of mental illness, stress and burnout. Now more than ever, it is crucial that educators on the front lines of mental health have a solid understanding of the challenges they face in schools and are equipped in their role in providing a solution. In this skillset, participants will learn how they can make a positive and pro-active impact through the application of evidence-based practices from the science of wellbeing, first for themselves, and then for students, staff and whole school communities.

2. Wellbeing starts with you
Evidence shows the individual wellbeing of teachers predicts the level of wellbeing in the students they interact with day to day. In this skillset, we ask participants to think about what they are bringing to the classroom and how their thoughts and behaviours affect their own wellbeing as well as those around them. This skillset teaches participants to identify and overcome barriers to wellbeing as well as practical evidence-based strategies for building mental resilience and sustaining positive habits of mind.

3. Feeling good and functioning well
High performing educators intuitively grasp what helps students feel good and function well, but learning the science behind emotions makes understanding this even easier. Our emotions can impact physical health, drive performance, and increase mental fitness. In this skillset, participants will learn the importance of both positive and negative emotions and apply evidence-based strategies to gain more emotional regulation, build resilience, promote engagement and love of learning. This skillset also explores how social connections influence our emotions and provides practical activities to strengthen these connections at school, work
and in life.

4. Other people matter
Relationships are considered the number one predictor of personal wellbeing and a key predictor of student performance. This skillset teaches participants how to build safe and trusting relationships in the classroom through the application of coaching skills, positive leadership practices, and autonomy-supportive teaching.

5. Big change starts small
In order to build, you must first understand the foundation on which you are building. The same is true for any wellbeing practices or change initiatives that take place in a school. This skillset helps participants gain an understanding of what is already working well in their school and how to build on that. Participants will also learn how to assemble their "dream team" – getting stakeholders on board by applying practices from collaborative change models.

6. Embedding wellbeing - making it stick
The most challenging part of wellbeing change in schools is making it stick. It is not uncommon for schools to start with enthusiasm only to have great work diminish over time. This is often due to the lack of a clear long-term sustainability strategy. This skillset teaches participants how to transform wellbeing goals into reality, with practical project management strategies and tips to keep going when the going gets tough. Participants will also learn how to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of wellbeing initiatives and how to adjust practices to create long term success and encourage continuous improvement. By the end of the skillset, participants will be ready to immediately implement a small initiative (or large-scale whole-school wellbeing plan) into their own educational setting.
