The City of Austin, Austin Resource Recovery, is seeking interested and qualified individuals to lead paid online interactive repair workshops. Workshops will be hosted on a platform provided by the City of Austin, and selected instructors will receive up to $100 per class.

We are currently seeking applications for two series:

  1. Bilingual Spanish-English speakers with knowledge on small kitchen appliance repair, used bike maintenance/repair and techniques to alter clothes to fit your body.
  2. Small home appliance repair - bilingual speakers preferred, but English-only okay. Classes would focus on repair of 1-2 items such as: blenders, toasters, lamps, vacuum cleaners, printers, coffee machines, plug-in fans.

We still encourage you to complete an application if you have another area of expertise.

Each 60-minute class should cover, at a minimum:

  • Safety precautions
  • Basic instruction on how the item works; it is ideal if the instructor can guide the class through disassembly as an example
  • Common problems and to trouble shoot them
  • Tips on how the item(s) can be maintained/cleaned to last longer
  • Tips on how someone might seek professional repair assistance, or when the item may be past the point of repair

Completing this application does not guarantee being selected to instruct a class. Instructors will be selected based on the competitiveness of their application and their presentation skills. The application consists of four pages:

  • Contact information
  • Repair knowledge and expertise (including a short video demonstrating your technical, repair & speaking skills)
  • Acknowledgements
