Farm and Commercial Scale Composting

Join us to hear some of the ins and outs of larger scale farm and commercial composting from Gregory Gelewski, Deputy Director of the Madison County Department of Solid Waste. This training will cover an overview of:
- Some technologies and methods of commercial and “farm” scale composting, including the basic biology and chemistry of composting principles
- The regulatory requirements and operating exemptions, along with some of the Food Safety and Modernization Act (FSMA) implications for those growing and distributing food crops
- Info on how composting will fit in with the “new” Farm Bill and the “Fertilizer Product Expansion Program”
- Some of the State & Federal initiatives, USDA & NRCS practices, and other funding mechanisms that might be available for compost production and use
- Business/growth opportunities for targeting food wastes
