Capital Canvases for a Cause featuring Art by Liz
Liz donated a portion of her proceeds online and on site to the Capital Breast Care Center.
We provide culturally appropriate breast cancer screening services and promote health and wellness to women in the Washington, DC area regardless of their ability to pay.
Interestingly enough, right before this event, the controversial new guidelines on breast cancer mammograms were released. The Center is not changing its screening recommendations—all women beginning at age 40 should continue to receive regular mammograms. For the organization's official position on the guidelines, please visit their website.
Early screening is crucial for African American/Black women who have certain risk factors, particularly those in the DC-metropolitan area. Capital Breast Care Center serves all women, regardless of their ability to pay. One half of all breast cancers detected at Capital Breast Care Center is in women under the age of 50.
Please call or e-mail Beth Beck, executive director, with your questions. 202-784-2707 or bbeck@capitalbreastcare.org {from the Capital Breast Care Organization website}
