A few months ago we found out that Comrade Baby will be born into this world and into our lives. As we were waiting for their arrival, we learnt that they will be born with a congenital chronic health condition that’s likely to become a barrier and obstacle in their life. We live in a world that is designed by and for people with certain abilities and so we’d like to make sure that Comrade Baby has the best start possible.
The past year has seen many acts of genuine affinity and solidarity across different communities, but not all communities have the same resources. Furlough scheme and other government support allowed many of us to get by alright, but those of us with the most precarious jobs this wasn't always the case. This baby will be born with a number of intersecting obstacles in life (being person of colour and working-class roots in a country that systemically oppresses people of these backgrounds), which is why we have decided to set up this fundraiser to support them. Comrade Baby could really do with some of your support to help them with pain management and having the abundance of resources every child deserves for growing up. Comrade baby's parents have been in and out of precarity over the years and having the safety net of financial stability for comrade baby's needs will give real piece of mind.
Let’s redistribute our resources! or – if we don’t have much – get it from people who do (i.e. parents, rich uncles, sugar daddies...:)
Some of the things we are fundraising for (see full list below): Pram with special suspension, breast pump, healthcare kit, supplemental osteopathy and pulmonary physiotherapy sessions for the baby - the parents have researched the condition well, what the ideal care is and what's likely to be available on the NHS and what will have to be paid for.
We are going to try to get things second-hand whenever possible – however, some of the items are specialist equipment due to Comrade Baby’s rare condition and hard to source second-hand. Any excess money will go towards costs related to medical needs, recovery and rehabilitation and their future well being and health.
