As a student chapter of the global EA movement, Effective Altruism - De La Salle University aims to help Lasallians use evidence and logic to do the most good, and take action on that basis.

We provide opportunities for our members to maximize their social impact with their careers and resources while learn about pressing global or local causes prioritized by the Effective Altruism community, such as global health and development, animal welfare, and improving the long-term future

Effective Altruism is a philosophy that applies evidence and reasoning to determine the most effective ways to help others. Effective Altruism is also a social movement. It is a growing community of people that focus on maximizing their social impact with the careers and resources they have. As of 2021, there are over 245 community groups for people interested in Effective Altruism in 40+ countries.

EA Philippines

Effective Altruism Philippines is the Philippine chapter of the global effective altruism movement, providing high-quality resources and discussion spaces for Filipinos who are interested in EA and want to help solve important but neglected problems.

The EA PH team works on student chapter support for its UPD, ADMU, and DLSU chapters, local cause prioritization research, research on high-impact careers and charities, career advising, a job and internship board, and events and socials.

Introductory Discussion Group
Fellowships are 8- to 10-week programs with weekly discussions and readings on the core concepts of effective altruism.

Patterned after programs in the Harvard, Yale, and Oxford chapters, fellowships will expose participants to topics such as how to think more rationally, high-impact career planning, neglected cause areas, and existential risks--all geared towards helping you discover how you can make the most impact.

[NEW DATE] Term 3 General Assembly: Introduction to EA Talk

How might we use evidence and logic to do the most good? Join us as we learn how we can make a large social impact with our careers and donations. Join us on August 21 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm.

This 1.5 hour seminar and assembly will introduce Effective Altruism as an organization, its values, cause areas, and the goals that EA DLSU as a student chapter aims to achieve. Our featured talk will also introduce Lasallians to key effective altruism concepts as a means to better live out our core value of communion in mission.

• How to get involved locally and internationally

Past Projects

Career Planning for the Development Sector
This talk aimed to introduce one of EA Philippines’ theory of change: high-impact careers. Our first run was held last July 31, 2021 (Saturday) from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

We invited Ms. Nastassja Quijano, current Senior Governance Program Officer at The Australian Embassy Manila who holds an MSc in International Development Management from the University of Westminster, United Kingdom. She has also done consultancy roles in project preparation, planning, and design covering social protection, human rights, sustainable infrastructure, value chain development, and climate finance, among others.

EA Career Planning Intensive
Choosing what to work on throughout your career is no easy feat. For this reason, EA Yale and EA Stanford is hosting a career intensive specifically geared towards university students! Programming consists of independent exercises and group discussions, as well as mentoring sessions and workshops with career professionals. Applications are currently closed for the July-August cohort.
