The Drone SkyShow will be visible from multiple locations around the central basin of Lake Burley Griffin.  The main event hub will be at Commonwealth Place on Lake Burley Griffin.  There is a smaller secondary hub at Regatta Point.

The event will take place from 5pm to 11pm on Thursday 25, Friday 26, and Saturday 27 January 2024.

Can I see the event from another location?

Yes, the Drone SkyShow is visible from various central basin locations. However, amenities are only available at Commonwealth Place and Regatta Point. Your location may alter your perspective of the show.

What time are the markets?

Markets begin at 5pm and close at 10:30pm.

What time are the light shows?

The FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow runs for 12 minutes every hour from sundown. At this time of year this is approximately:

What can I expect to see at the Drone SkyShow?

600 drones will take to the skies over Lake Burley Griffin and, in an Australian first, present a trilogy of stories each night.

Ngunnawal Elder, Dr Caroline Hughes has worked with the NCA and AGB Creative to contribute key cultural and narrative elements to the story of FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow and Night Markets.

Audiences can expect breathtaking displays of Australian native flora, fauna and history in the sky.

Do I need to book tickets for the event?

No, entry to the event is free and no bookings are required.

How do I get to the event?

Accepted Answer

Free public transport across the entire Transport Canberra network will be available for FLIGHT from 5pm on 25-27 January. Parking in the National Triangle is FREE after 5pm, and on weekends and Public Holidays. 
If you plan on driving, there are a variety of carparks in the area.

Do you have accessible parking?

Questacon carpark will be closed to the general public and made available for patrons in cars displaying a valid Disability Parking Permit.

Can I catch public transport?

Accepted Answer

You can catch regular bus services from all the major interchanges to stops either side of Lake Burley Griffin, free from 5pm.
R2, R4, R5, R6, R7, R10, 57 and 58 from City Interchange
R2, R3 and R4 from Belconnen Interchange
R4, R5 and R6 from Woden Interchange
R4 from Tuggeranong Interchange

Is there a shuttle to the event?

City Shuttles: Free shuttles from City & Woden interchanges directly to the event.
Bus Routes: You can catch regular bus services from all the major interchanges to stops either side of Lake Burley Griffin from 7pm.

Can I park and ride?

Accepted Answer

Park for free at one of the 24 facilities across Canberra and connect to a bus or light rail service going to the event. Public Transport will be free from 5pm for 25-27 January, thanks to Transport Canberra.

What should I bring to the event?

Accepted Answer

You may want to bring a picnic blanket to sit on, as well as any snacks or beverages you'd like to enjoy during the event.

FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow & Night Markets is an outdoor event with main viewing area in open space - please wear appropriate clothing.

Will there be food and drinks available at the event?

Yes, there will be night markets featuring food, drinks, and crafts available at the event. 
The Jetty, Waters Edge and The Margot will be operating at Commonwealth Place, as well as ample food and drink options at the market.

Is the event suitable for families?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the event is suitable for all ages and is a great opportunity for families and friends to come together and enjoy the beautiful setting of Lake Burley Griffin.

Is there music at the event?

Yes, live music will be playing at the Markets.  
The drone show will be accompanied by a live soundtrack. Patrons will be able to listen this via their phones at https://www.sky.art/

Will there be first aid on-site?

A first aid tent will be located at Commonwealth Place.

Will there be security on-site?

Accepted Answer

Yes, roving security will monitor crowds and alcohol consumption. Please note that no security will be provided at alternative viewing locations.

What happens during bad weather?

FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow will be unable to proceed in rain, high winds, thunderstorms, and/or lightning. 
In the event of cancellation or delay, the NCA will work with the Drone SkyShow supplier to attempt (where possible) to reschedule the event.

Will I be notified if the event is cancelled?

The NCA will use social media and emails to notify the community of any delays or cancellations. To guarantee that you receive event updates and notifications of this type, visitors should sign up to Eventbrite. We encourage you to follow the NCA and National Triangle on social media.

Can I bring my pet?

Accepted Answer

Due to the large crowds expected at FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow & Night Markets, it is not advisable to bring a pet to this event.
Service animals are excepted.

COVID-19

Accepted Answer

There are no current COVID-19 restrictions for events in the ACT, we recommend you practice good hand hygiene and stay at home if you have any COVID-19 symptoms.

Can I ride an e-scooter to the event?

Accepted Answer

While Commonwealth Place is a no-ride zone, there will be designated e-scooter parking on either side of the event area. Patrons are encouraged to park and ride using active transport methods to avoid delays. Download the Beam & Neuron apps in the app store or Google Play store.
