The incredible Bailong Elevator in Hunan, China was today honoured at a special Guinness World Records certificate presentation event. 
 
Standing at 326 m (1,070 ft), the mechanical marvel, which is located at the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, holds the record for world’s tallest outdoor lift.

The upper 171.4 m of the elevator is above ground and built on the side of a quartzite cliff. 
 
The elevator gives passengers a spectacular view over the area's massive karst monolith formations, including one nearby called "Soldiers Gathering Together".

Open to the public since May 2002, the ascent in one of the three double-deck elevators takes just 1 minute and 32 seconds. Each elevator has a capacity of 4,900 kg.

Today’s widely attended event, which was hosted in the park in Hunan province, was held to celebrate the elevator’s recognition by Guinness World Records as well as highlighting the recent success of upgrading its speed.
 
The event was attended by Mr. Rowan Simons, President of Guinness World Records Greater China, who commended the elevator’s state-of-the-art facilities.

After presenting the Guinness World Records’ certification, Mr. Simons said, "It is our honour to verify this amazing achievement which not only provides a convenient transportation for tourists’ sightseeing, but also saves time for supplying materials of scenic spots as well as maximising the protection of the local natural environment and ecological balance.”
