Dia de los Muertos Altar/Ofrenda Building Workshop
Celebrate and remember a relative, a friend, or a person who was meaningful to you by creating a temporary altar in their honor. Participants will be provided with table space, cardboard boxes varying in size for the altar, black cloth, marigolds, sugar skull, and additional art supplies. Participants are encouraged to bring pictures of their loved ones and additional personal items and traditional components. Children can also enjoy a free screening of Coco at 1 PM while adults are creating. Wear a favorite or traditional costume! Altar Viewing and Reception will take place from 3:00 -5:00 PM. Family, friends, and community members are invited to come view the altars and bring an item to place on a Community Altar. Light refreshments will be provided.
Gingerbread Design and Build Workshop
Upon registration, participants will be sent a gingerbread recipe to prepare ahead of time and bring to the workshop to design and build a creation that represents a special place or memory. Workshop materials will include a 12" x 12" plywood base and colorful candies to use as decoration. Creations can be taken home to enjoy, or for a separate registration fee, entered in the Glenwood Springs Historical Society’s annual Gingerbread Competition at the Hotel Colorado on November 25th. This workshop is presented in partnership with the Glenwood Springs Historical Society.
