Publisher's summary

Get ready for audiobook three, League of Auld, coming in January 2023, by listening to the Audible best seller, Alexander X (#1 overall).

Alexander Grant is a little too good at a few too many things. Two dozen martial arts. Twice that many languages. Chess, the piano, sports, forging excused absences, you name it. He graduated high school top of his class 17 times. Of course, no one knows any of this. Not that he wants to go unnoticed. It’s just safer that way.

So for the last several decades, Alexander has been forced to move from town to small town to even smaller town—he just bought his 651st house—in an effort to live a painfully quiet life. But when a mysterious cabal attempts to kidnap him and kill his friends, Alexander must use all his skills and centuries of training to outwit the most dangerous man alive, the mastermind of a plot that would change the world forever.

Clever, intriguing, skillfully woven with humor, Alexander X launches us on an epic journey toward a future few of us will survive, rising from a past we never knew existed.

Totally enjoying Wheaton's performance

First, Wil Wheaton makes the comedy and the action rock. The premise is intriguing. A world where a very few of us age only a couple of days a year. Basically, aging at like 1/100th the speed of everyone else. What are all the amazing/cool/horrible things that would have happened to you over all that time? Who would you have been? Alexander X is one of those few. But as interesting as living so long might be, there's something else going on. Something bigger. No spoilers, but we don't get all of it, everything doesn't get wrapped up in this book, but I got enough of it to leave me satisfied and left me wanting more. Hope it doesn't take forever for the second Battle for Forever book to get released.

Immersive Action and Compelling Narration!

I was already familiar with the previous books from this author, so I was hopeful that Alexander X would live up to my expectations. I was definitely not disappointed as I became immersed in the unique world of Alexander "Grant." This Audiobook made the long round trip drive between LA and Las Vegas immensely enjoyable for my family! My teenage kids even stayed in the car to finish the last ten minutes in our driveway! Wil Wheaton's narration was precise and compelling, and added the perfect vocal tone to the story. I hope that the next installment will be released on Audiobook before our next vacation!

Intriguing

I'll be honest, I only considered this book because it is read by Wil Wheaton. However, I ended up really enjoying it! Looking forward to the next one.

Great idea-Questionable execution

So I like the book, the idea is great, the characters are decent, but the dialogue is often terrible and ruins the vibe, I can’t tell if this was written for Pre-teens or what? The book and the concept as a whole could be so much better and more appealing if it had more of an air of seriousness to it. Oh well, it was still pretty entertaining if you’re bored and in between booms it’s probably worth a credit

Excellent Book

I love leaning more history though a story. Will Wheaton was outstanding, as usual. The story was fast paced with lots of action. Reminded me, a bit, of the Percy Jackson series.

Quite, quite good

I don't see how this possibly can continue, with true rhetorical purpose, but on the other hand, as a stand alone novel, I truly appreciate the choices the author made, and the path he had the protagonist go down.

Wil Wheaton, it should be obvious, was effing phenomenal.

Both author and narrator were great

Will Wheaton has only gotten better since Ready Player One. He actually laughs to highlight funny moments in the script. His old man voice could use a little work but it's passable.

The story itself is very good too. I enjoyed the author taking us thru various historical periods.

For YA, this is fine

I was disappointed because after reading the reviews, I thought this book was directed at a general audience. It’s really more YA, which is fine, just not what I was looking for. The sidekick friend Daniel drove me bonkers but fit right in if you figured the target audience was about 15. I stuck with the book more than halfway because I loved the premise and was curious to see what would happen. Then with about four hours to go it dawned on me that the book had to be headed for a cliffhanger ending. There was no chance the story would be tied up by the end. I checked and sure enough there’s a sequel coming out at the end of the month. I figure then there would be a third book and I have no interest in waiting to find out how the story concludes. So I returned the book out of sheer exasperation.
