Best times of the day to call? Or, would it be better to meet in person? Might we need a third-party to translate? Or, a TTY phone call? Let us know what works for you.

DEMOGRAPHIC AND IDENTITY INFORMATION
In order to be intentional about creating a diverse, multicultural community, scholarships and tuition assistance will be reserved for students who qualify as being low income and/or who represent a racial, ethnic or cultural minority. Preference is also given to returning students who are in good standing.
You are not required to answer any of these Demographic and Identity questions, and can choose "Prefer not to answer" as a response, if you would like. We ask these questions to let you know that Hope Academy is an inclusive and safe place where young people can further their personal and artistic growth through the study and performance of theater, dance and music.

Financial need is determined by eligibility for any of the following programs: SSI / Social Security, Section 8 Housing, CHIP, WIC, Foster Care, SNAP (food stamps) from PA, Medical Assistance from PA, Cash Assistance from PA, Assistance from LIHEAP 1 or 2, Refugee/Immigrant Assistance or Participant in Homeless/Domestic Violence program, SAT Fee Waiver, Free or Reduced School Lunch. If you answer "yes" to this question, we would encourage you to apply for tuition assistance.

INTEREST, EXPERIENCE AND COMMITMENT TO MUSIC INSTRUCTION
-
-
FOR PIANO LESSONS
Your child will not make progress without a piano to practice on at home between lessons. Ideally you will have a good quality acoustic piano, but if you live in an apartment, or a small house, a digital piano (not a keyboard) might be an acceptable option for some types of piano instruction.
Digital pianos should be full-sized - 88 weighted keys with touch sensitivity - with a fixed pedal, a sturdy music stand, and a sound that matches that of an acoustic piano.
Please note: having an acoustic piano at home is a requirement for Suzuki piano lessons because practicing on an acoustic piano allows your child to develop a better "touch."

Please note: students who received a scholarship in 2017-2018 will need to have a recommendation from their teaching artist to receive a scholarship for 2018-2019. The recommendation is based on attendance, preparation/practice and performance.

What types of music do they enjoy listening to? Do they move naturally in rhythm to percussive sounds, pick out melody lines on the piano, or find the harmonies when they sing? Has a music teacher encouraged them to go further? Are they inspired by a relative or friend who plays an instrument? Do you play an instrument?
For more advanced students: Are they preparing for an audition or college admission? Are they looking for opportunities to write their own music? Record their own songs? Rehearse and perform with others?
These are just some examples that will help to get you started. You don't need to answer all of them, and you can tell us anything you would like.

This will help us to schedule private lessons around or near the classes.
-
Private lessons at Hope Academy are scheduled TUESDAY - SATURDAY. During the week most lessons take place between 4 and 8:30 pm. Some homeschool students take earlier lessons, if a teacher is available. Saturday lessons are scheduled from 8 am to 5 pm.
We will need to find one consistent day/time during the week to schedule the lesson that works for both you and the teacher. This information will help us to determine if we have a teacher available on the days and times your child is available for lessons. For example, if Saturdays never work, tell us. If Wednesdays after 6 pm is the only time your family has open, we will see what we can do.
Please consider that playing music is a big commitment. Students who are over-committed to other activities may not have adequate time to practice.
Your best chance of getting a lesson day/time that works for your family is to enroll in the fall term. After that, most teaching artists have limited availability. This especially holds true for families who want multiple lessons on the same day and time. Rarely can that be scheduled after the fall term.

For example, if you have another child who would like to take lessons at Hope Academy and you would need the lessons to be scheduled at the same, or nearly the same time, tell us about that here. And then fill out another inquiry form for the other child.
