The Jahajee Sisters 2021 Indo-Caribbean Women's+ Empowerment Summit is an interdisciplinary event that convenes an intergenerational, multi-racial, gender-expansive group of people to envision and mobilize for solutions to gender justice in the Indo-Caribbean community and beyond.
This year’s Summit, "Sowing Seeds for Justice: Cultivating a New World" will take place on September 17-19, 2021, and once again, will be a three-day virtual conference open to all, including Indo-Caribbeans across the diaspora: the US, Canada, UK and the Caribbean.
The Summit will consist of plenaries, cultural performances, and workshop sessions.
We are seeking proposals for workshops in the following tracks:
1) Indo-Caribbean History & Culture;
2) Arts, Creativity & Storytelling;
3) Healing, Wellness & Empowerment; and
4) Political Education & Activism.
The deadline to submit your proposal is Friday, August 20th, 2021.
Workshop sessions are 90 minutes and can have two or more presenters. Expected attendance will range from 25-75 people. Please read the criteria below for what we are looking for.
Workshop Sessions We Want:
* Participatory: They are interactive, engaging and participants aren't being "talked at" the entire time.
* Practical: They offer tools and ideas that participants can use and apply to their work, leadership and life.
* Intersectional: They have an intersectional analysis & approach to addressing systemic issues.
* Intergenerational: They are encouraging of the participation of young people as well as elders.
