Got an Extra Room?
LexRAP, a Lexington-based group committed to support Refugees and Asylum Seekers (http://www.LexRAP.org) is looking for people who have an extra room in their homes, and space in their hearts, to be foster parents to Unaccompanied Refugee Minors. These are refugee children who have fled their homes and lost their families; they are now in the US seeking safety, shelter, education, and the hope of a life free of violence. Will you consider this, or do you know someone who might?
Children are most often in their teen years and come from a number of countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Central America. They receive financial support and social services until the age of 22. While they have been through a lot, these kids are survivors, and it is a joy to see them blossom in a safe and stable environment.
LexRAP is working with Ascentria Care Alliance, to find homes for unaccompanied minors. While Ascentria provides oversight of the program, LexRAP volunteers are ready to help with a variety of needs, for families in the Lexington area who are ready and willing to take on this rewarding work.
We are hosting an information session for anyone who might be interested, on January 25, at 7:00 PM at the Community Center.
Contact Bruce Neumann with questions, and CLICK to visit the Ascentria website.
And if you have room, but would prefer to host an adult, there are a number of Asylum Seekers also looking for safe, stable living situations. Contact Alan Millner if you would like to know more.

Drop off: Saturday January 28th and Sunday 29th. 10AM to 5PM at 10 Grant Place, Lexington. Laptop Specifications
If you have not removed your personal information, we have a group of volunteers who will delete the user’s profile and files. Make sure that there isn’t a password needed to sign in to your computer. Please don’t give us damaged, broken laptops or those without charging cords - we won’t be able to fix laptops that are broken.
PC laptops
- Donated PC laptops should have at least Windows 7 or above to be usable.
- To find out what version of Windows you have, first look for a sticker on the laptop showing the version of Windows.
- If there is no sticker, turn on your computer and sign in.
- Right click on “My Computer” or “This PC” and a menu will appear.
- Select “Properties” from that menu. The will bring up a window that will show the version of Windows that you have.
Mac laptops
- Macs shouldn’t have significant known problems and not be more than 3 to 4 years old.
Thank for your generosity in advance!
