Description

The Australia Day Tasting is the largest annual trade tasting of Australian wine outside Australia - and it keeps on growing. For January 2017, we’ve moved to a new, bigger venue to accommodate even more wines, exhibitors, winemakers and visitors.

With a geographical size similar to Europe and distinct climates, soils and terroirs, it’s no surprise that Australia boasts an array of wine styles, flavours and grape varieties.

To help you explore the diversity of Australian wine, we have over 1000 wines to taste, covering 65 different regions across 5 states. We hope you’ll enjoy making new discoveries as well as trying the latest vintages of old favourites.

The tasting is enhanced by themed master classes and focus tables, ensuring that you have a full and exciting day of immersion into Australian wine.

You are also invited to attend one of our three master classes, led by industry experts and winery principals. These offer an opportunity to taste a diverse range of wines and gain valuable insight into Australia’s unique and revered styles and regions.

11am – 12noon Adelaide Hills Chardonnay
Presented by Marty Edwards (The Lane) and Dan Coward (Shaw + Smith), this master class explores the diversity and elegance of Adelaide Hills Chardonnay. A leader in “New Australian – New Wave” Chardonnay, the Adelaide Hills is producing bright, stylish wines which challenge the traditional assumptions and rival the very best Chardonnays in the world.

1pm – 2pm Australia’s age-worthy whites
Join Wine Australia’s Mark Davidson and Emma Symington MW to discover some of Australia’s most iconic white wine styles, which can age gradually and gracefully for decades. Taste three vintages of Tyrrell’s Vat 1 Semillon, Tahbilk Marsanne and Pewsey Vale Contours Riesling across three decades, which the wineries have specially sourced from their limited museum stock.

3pm – 4pm McLaren Vale’s Great Grenache
Led by The Wine Detective, Sarah Ahmed, this session shows off the best of McLaren Vale Grenache. With a distinct climate, ancient soils and heritage vines, the McLaren Vale is internationally recognised as the place to go for great Grenache. Passionate winemakers are crafting expressive Grenache wines, brimming with richness, aroma and vibrancy. Find out what makes the McLaren Vale great and taste some stellar examples.

Master class places are limited, so we recommend signing up now. Strictly one master class space per person.

This year, we’re delighted to have our friends at Brickwood Coffee & Bread join us. They’ll be running an Australian pop-up café with a selection of tasty, unique Australian treats.

See you there!
