RSVP FOR GATHERING ON MAY 16-17
Florida faith leaders, both clergy and laity, are invited to attend a Florida Clergy Gathering on Monday May, 16 and Tuesday, May 17 in Orlando, Florida at the Florida Hotel & Conference Center. The event is hosted by the Florida Council of Churches and presented by Pastors for Florida Children. We will discuss ways for people of faith to be involved in legislative advocacy, community organizing, and voter empowerment in order to bring about something we all desire…abundant living for all. Monday, May 16  
7:00 p.m. - Plenary Session with Keynote Address by Attorney Cecile Scoon (President League of Women
Voters FL), along with music, prayer and a centering word.

Tuesday, May 17
9:00 a.m. - Legislative recap on public education, voter suppression, criminal  justice, and immigration

12:00 p.m. - Lunch & Launch of Voter Registration Initiative by Florida Council of Churches

1:30 p.m. - Adjourn

We have a limited number of room scholarships which will be awarded on a first-come-first-serve basis. Complete the event registration form (below) and call the Florida Hotel and Conference Center to reserve a hotel room, and we will follow up with you about the room scholarship status after you have made a commitment to attend.

Keynote Speaker:
Cecile Scoon received a Visual and Environmental Studies undergraduate degree from Harvard in 1981. She is currently a civil rights lawyer in Panama City, Florida. After graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1984, she spent five years as an active duty Air Force JAG prosecuting in military courts-martial. She retired from the A.F. reserves as a Major in 2005. Cecile currently serves as the President of the LWV of Florida. She is the first Black woman to serve in this capacity. She is a past president of the League of Women Voters of Bay County. Cecile previously served as chair of the Florida League’s efforts on Restoration of Rights (including passing Florida’s 2018 Amendment 4) as well as heading up the Health Care Action Team. Cecile is a proud member of the Xi Omicron Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
