Watauga High School

Watauga High School's all-male talent show is composed of boys from our high school competing for the title of Mr. Watauga High School!

For the past 23 years, the Watauga High School Student Council has organized and presented the Mr. WHS talent show. The fundraiser aims to raise money for local families facing financial hardships. During our last show Student Council, with help from our community, raised over $25,000 that went directly to three local families.  This year will be the 24th anniversary of the show and currently, our goal is to raise over $30,000!

See this year's families below - ALL PROCEEDS are given directly to these families!

The Hollar Family

Rayn Thigpen, Jamison Gaddy and Lucy Hollar recently lost their mother, Christy Hollar, from breast cancer.  Christy was a wonderful single mother, who made a great impact on her church family and work community. She always supported her 3 children no matter how bad she felt. After fighting cancer  for over a year, Christy passed away, and now her family is burdened with the loss of their mother. A trust has been formed for her 3 children’s college and educational purposes.

McKinney Family

The McKinney family has a 4 year old who has Down Syndrome, and was recently diagnosed with leukemia. In less than a month, the McKinney's life was drastically changed when Ezekiel was diagnosed with leukemia, and was immediately admitted to Brenner Children's Hospital to receive blood transfusions. He has also began to undergo aggressive Chemo treatments. This has caused the McKinney family to be stretched between their jobs in Boone, and staying with their son, as well as high medical expenses.

Lewis Family

The Lewis family has a 10 year old girl who recently had surgery for a grade 4 medulloblastoma, a cancerous brain tumor. Maize will need to be transported to an out-of-state hospital to undergo aggressive radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Maize and her family have a long road ahead of treatments and medical bills, but are extremely thankful for their community for the support they have been given.
