To connect with people. 

Cards will be sent to residential facilities serving people who need to remain isolated from the rest of the community due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. These people are getting limited person-to-person interactions due to their age or underlying medical conditions.

To show support for Long Term Care staff. 

Cards will be sent to staff at residential facilities, who have extremely high risk of exposure to the virus that causes COVID-19. Personnel working in close proximity to those at very high risk and have suffered the loss of clients, while increasing their own risk as well as those of their families.

 To remind our neighbors that they are not forgotten and are not alone. 

In fact, the residents of Pima County are thinking about them and wishing them well during these trying times. 

• Wash your hands! - Before you begin to create your note, please wash your hands.
• Make them legible - Please use large print if handwritten and large font if computer-generated.
• Let your creativity shine! - If you’re crafty, feel free to use recycled images and other materials to make collage cards. If you can draw or paint, go for it! Computer generated cards and coloring pages are also nice (see links below). Create cards that you would like to receive.
• Make your note heart-felt, upbeat and neutral -  You don’t know who is going to get your note, so make sure your uplifting message could be received by anyone regardless of gender, political preference, or religious affiliation.
• No Date necessary (day, month and year) -  Once you send the letters, the nursing home staff will need to let them sit out for a day or two for sanitation reasons.
• Limit personal details - Remember to be careful sending your personal details; please do not give out your phone number, for example.
• Share your act of kindness on social media! (optional) -  Share pictures of your creative process. Staff at the facilities may post photos of residents receiving the cards. Use the hashtags: #PimaLove, #SnailMailSmiles, and/or #TogetherApart; and #TucsonCares and #TucsonTogether for locations in the Tucson metro area

1. Following the guidelines above, write/create your letter or card.

2. Address your letter to the facility of your choosing from the list below, writing PimaLove on the envelope.

3. (optional) Share on Social. Get even more social with this project! Share a snapshot of your letter or card on social media, using a suggested hashtag, and tag friends or family to join you in reaching out and showing #PimaLove!

Am I at risk for COVID-19 from mail, packages or products? (Source: CDC)

There is still a lot that is unknown about COVID-19 and how it spreads. Coronaviruses spread via respiratory droplets. Although the virus can survive for a short period on some surfaces, it is unlikely to spread from domestic or international mail, products or packaging. However, it may be possible that people can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

Accepting Deliveries

• Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer after accepting deliveries or collecting mail
• After collecting mail from a post office or home mailbox, wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
• Avoid direct contact with the delivery person
• Disinfect any high-touch surfaces you had contact with after handling
• Avoid touching your face, including your mouth, eyes and nose
