Help steward Port Townsend’s community rain gardens!
Since 2014, the Jefferson County Marine Resources Committee has worked with many local organizations and community volunteers to install 19 rain gardens across Port Townsend, Quilcene, and Port Hadlock. These gardens are superheroes of green infrastructure, filtering harmful contaminants from stormwater runoff before they reach our beloved Salish Sea. Rain gardens are low maintenance and only require a handful of days each year to remove weeds, water, and mulch. Are you interested in working with your community to maintain one of your neighborhood's beautiful green infrastructure solutions?

There are two ways to help!
(1) General volunteer:
The amount of work you put in throughout the year is completely up to you. We hold anywhere up to 10 work parties each year that you can participate in. Each event is MRC-sponsored and can take place at any one of the 19 gardens we care for. This entails being on our mailing list of rain garden events throughout the year--it's completely up to you how many you choose to participate in!

(2) Adopt a rain garden:
You will only have one garden that you help out with for a handful of days a year. Many people are interested in a particular garden because it’s close to their home or at a location they frequent. As a steward, it’s your partial responsibility to identify the needs of the garden and water it when it’s dry, weed it, and notify the MRC if you need additional hands or supplies. You would be that garden’s home base representative! We are here to help you and will provide support, volunteers, and supplies as needed.
