Both the Easton and St. Michaels branches are pleased to offer a new Computer By Appointment service beginning March 8, 2021. Computer By Appointment is for anyone that needs to use a computer or printer or simply has an unreliable internet connection. Everyone is welcome - you do not need to have a library card to take advantage of this service. Read the FAQ below for more details.
*Masks must be worn at all times inside library buildings, while attending events on library property and while utilizing Books to Go, regardless of vaccine status.
Computer by Appointment Hours:
Monday and Thursday, 10:00 A.M. to Noon and 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:00 A.M. to Noon and 3:00 P.M. to 4:45 P.M.
Can I make an appointment in person or by email?
No, in order to facilitate scheduling and ensure that everyone stay as safe as possible, all appointments must be made by phone.
How long is my appointment?
All computer sessions are limited to 45 minutes, including printing, so that we can safely accommodate as many people as possible.
What if I need more time? Can I get an extension?
No, in order to make this service available for as many people as possible, sessions are automatically set to end after 45 minutes. No extensions can be given, so please pace yourself accordingly. If you think you may run out of time, please save your work to your own thumb drive or online back up. Library staff cannot provide thumb drives.
What if I'm late for my appointment? What if I miss my appointment?
While we understand that things happen, if you are more than 10 or 15 minutes late for your scheduled appointment, your appointment will be cancelled. You can call the library to try to reschedule for another time, based on availability of appointments. If you know in advance that you will be late or unable to make your appointment, please call the Library as soon as possible. Please note that if you are less than 10 or 15 minutes late, your appointment will still end at the scheduled time, so you may not receive a full 45 minute computer session. This is to allow Library staff to complete necessary cleaning between appointments, therefore no extensions of time can be given.
What about printing?
You may print up to 20 black and white pages for free during your session using a library card or guest pass. Please allow time to print during your 45 minute visit and please try to release your print jobs at one time.
What if I need to print more than 20 pages?
At this time, we are not able to accommodate printing jobs greater than 20 pages.
How do I print if I’m using a guest pass?
If you are using a guest pass, you will need to give the guest pass to the staff member at the Information Desk. They will release the print job for you.
I need to listen to something on the computer.
Please bring your own headphones. The Library will not provide headphones or other means of listening. As always, cell phone use is prohibited in the library out of respect for other patrons and staff.
What if I need help with the computer?
Please bring a friend or family member who can assist you during your appointment. Due to social distancing requirements, library staff cannot offer computer assistance at this time.
Can my child accompany me?
Children 8 and under, whether scheduled for their own computer appointment, or scheduled to accompany an adult with an appointment, must remain by their caregiver’s side at all times.
Is it safe to enter the library at this time?
We clean surfaces frequently, however, the risk of entering a public facility is your own. Library staff will clean computer stations between appointments, but the library cannot guarantee the cleanliness of surfaces or equipment as public libraries are high touch facilities.
Can I browse the collection during my visit?
No, access is limited to computer use only.
Can I return materials during my computer appointment?
Yes, but you must return them through the library’s book drop before you enter the building so that that they may be quarantined.
What if someone tests positive in the library?
We will follow the recommendations of the Talbot County Health Department. Computer by Appointment schedules will be retained to use as contact tracing information, if needed. This would allow the library to release your contact information to public health officials so that you can be contacted as a precaution. This is a precautionary measure intended to enhance health security for you, our staff, and other patrons.
What about WiFi? I have my own computer, but I need to print something out.
WiFi is available outside the library building, but we are not able to offer wireless printing at this time.
I just need to make a copy of something.
Unfortunately, our public copier is not available now.
