Darmasiswa Scholarship

“DARMASISWA is a scholarship program offered to all foreign students from countries that have diplomatic relationships with Indonesia to study Bahasa, art, and culture. Participants can choose one of the selected universities located in different cities in Indonesia. This program is organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture (MoEC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).” The DARMASISWA program was started in 1974 as part of the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) initiative, admitting only students from ASEAN. However, in 1976 this program was extended to include students from other countries such as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, and the USA. In the early 90's, this program was extended further to include all countries which have diplomatic relationships with Indonesia. Recently, the number of countries participating in this program is more than 135 countries.

KNB Scholarship

Kemitraan Negara Berkemang (Developing Countries Partnership/KNB) Scholarship is financial assistance offered by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to international students from developing countries to pursue a Master's Degree (and some bachelor's degrees) in Indonesian Universities. There are 53 programs offered, ranging from public administration to informatics engineering in 19 of Indonesia's best universities. The Scholarship was first introduced by the Ministry of Education and Culture in 1992. It initially serves the Ministry's higher education development strategic plan to embrace higher education globalization by providing financial assistance (scholarship) to selected Indonesian Universities to recruit potential International students to get their Master's Degree in our Universities. Realizing the program's significant contribution to human resources development within Indonesia's neighbouring developing countries, the Government of Indonesia decided to expand the program coverage and increase the number of scholarships offered. Between 2009 and 2017, Indonesia has been awarding 992 scholarships to students from 71 developing countries worldwide.

IAC Scholarship

The Indonesian Arts and Culture Scholarship (IACS) has been conducted since 2003 and was initially offered to and participated by member countries of the South West Pacific Dialogue (SwPD); Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, and the host Indonesia. Bearing in mind the significance and advantages obtained from the program, the scholarship was expanded over the years to include member countries of ASEAN, ASEAN+3, and PIF countries, as well as many countries from all regions in the world. In the period 2003 to 2019, the scholarship has been awarded to 920 alumni from 77 countries. Due to the limited space and the vast amount of interest in the program, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in cooperation with Indonesian Embassies and Consulates overseas, hold a series of the selection process. Taken into consideration are, among others, the awardees’ background, gender, regional representation and interest to learn Indonesian culture. To deepen the awardees’ understanding of Indonesian arts and culture, and to enhance their skills for the final performance, awardees will be divided and assigned by the organizing committee to different arts centres for approximately 3 (three) months. The arts centres are located in 6 (six) provinces, namely: Bali; West Sumatera; East Kalimantan; East Java; South Sulawesi and Yogyakarta. Awardees will live within or around the arts centre, allowing for the chance to experience the local heritage and interact with the local community. The synergy between theory and practices shared inside and outside the arts centre would undoubtedly become the driving force for shaping international cultures and norms, and will eventually strengthen regional as well as global understanding and cooperation at a people-to-people level.

BDSC Scholarship

Bali Democracy Students Conference (BDSC) is an annual program initiated by the government of The Republic of Indonesia in 2017. It was created as part of the Bali Democracy Forum, an annual intergovernmental event demonstrating a progressive democratic architecture in the Asia-Pacific region and initiated by the government of Indonesia in 2008. BDSC aims to transfer the value of democracy to the young generation and absorb views and input from them. Each year the organizing committee decides the theme of the program select selects the participants from around the globe. The first BDSC (BDSC I) was held in December 2017 and attended by 150 students from 61 countries. The theme was “From Campus for Democracy”. Following the success of BDSC I, the second BDSC (BDSC II) was held on 6 - 7 December 2018 and attended by 138 participants from 58 countries. The theme of the BDSC II was “Democracy for Prosperity: Youth’s Perspectives”. During the program, the participants share their experiences related to democracy in their respective countries. BDSC I and BDSC II resulted in documents namely “Voice of the Youth” and “Youth Make Changes” respectively. Both documents were then used as recommendations to enhance the value of Democracy in the participants’ respective countries.
