Doppelgänger Dance Collective presents Myths, Legends & Questions: new works for screen and stage.(part of AS220's Modern Movements Dance Festival
As the anchor performance of their second season, Doppelgänger Dance Collective (DDC) will present new interdisciplinary works at AS220s 95 Empire Black Box in April 2017 as part of their Community Live Arts Residency.  DDC will premiere a dance film, directed by Andy Russ in collaboration with poet Laura Brown Lavoie, and students from the Jacqueline M Walsh School for the Arts, as well as two new works by Rhode Island-based choreographer Heidi Henderson and a piece by Boston-based choreographer Alissa Cardone.

Heidi Henderson, Artistic Director of elephant JANE dance, continues her collaboration with DDC this season, appearing as special guest, performing a newly created solo, as well as with Baryshnikov, Davidson and cellist Adrienne Taylor, in a new work.

Interdisciplinary dance artist Alissa Cardone has crafted a work for DDC that blends Butoh and post-modern/ contemporary dance forms, bringing her unique vocabulary to Providence audiences. Nate Tucker has composed an original score for the work, and will be performing live, as well.

The CLR Residency, however, primarily supports the creation of Andy Russs  film. Drawing inspiration from the ancient Roman myth, the film is a surrealist reflection on contemporary issues of self image, social media, and the lure of beauty. The creation process involved the poet Laura Brown Lavoie and DDC working directly with a community partner, local high school students at Jacqueline M Walsh School for the Arts, to develop the content for the final film.  Movement and text will be generated and documented in an iterative way, allowing the material to evolve as it is passes back and forth between the collaborators and the students.
