Discover Sunday at Chautauqua Institution

Participants are encouraged to explore Chautauqua Institution through activities of their choice. Parking, Institution Entrance and all events except the Athenaeum lunch are free.

Visitors are asked to park in the Main Lot across from the Main Gate. Pick up a program schedule at the welcome table near the Main Gate entrance. Driving and parking on the grounds is permitted for those for whom walking is difficult. Car pools are encouraged.  Wear comfortable shoes.

Schedule of Events

All Day                    Have a picnic, walk the grounds, peruse the book store and other shops

12:45 - 2:00 p.m.  Optional Buffet Lunch in the historic Athenaeum Hotel, pre-paid reservation only, $20 each*

  • Assorted breads and rolls
  • Mixed greens salad and assorted dressings
  • Romaine and Buffalo-style chicken breast salad
  • Potato and pasta salad
  • Cottage cheese
  • Oven roast beef sandwich
  • Soup du jour
  • Assorted desserts

1:30 - 4:00 p.m.    Open House at the Episcopal Cottage

1:30 - 4:00 p.m.    Open House at the newly renovated Episcopal Chapel of the Good Shepherd

1:30 p.m.               Guided tour of Palestine Park, a model of the Holy Land

2:00 p.m.               Guided Nature Walk with Jack Gulvin

3:00 p.m.               Guided Bus Tour of Chautauqua grounds (space limited: first come, first served)

4:15 p.m.               Evening Prayer at the Hall of Philosophy
