Since December 2021, CH-UH students have been protesting the district's lack of protection for victims of sexual harassment and violence. Enough is Enough! is a community coalition united to ensure student victims experience justice and trauma-informed care in our school district's response to sexual violence. 

Students will present their demands (below) at a CH-UH school board meeting this April. Community support makes a difference. Please sign and share this petition to stand with CH-UH students as they fight for safety and justice -- for themselves and for the students who come after them.

STUDENT DEMANDS

DISTRICT-WIDE SEX EDUCATION. An immediate district-wide commitment to comprehensive, developmentally appropriate, and on-going sex education & consent curricula for all students pre-K to 12th grade, taught by a specialist such as the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center. Rationale: Prevention of sexual assault requires lifelong instruction, a community culture that values consent, and the humility to bring-in outside experts through vetted community partners.

TRANSPARENCY AND ACTION. Clear partnership and transparency among students, staff, administration, and community partners to ensure that all victims of sexual assault/harassment have the ability to report incidents and receive trauma-responsive support, including unbiased and accurate information about policies, procedures, supportive community services, and their rights. Rationale: Because existing structures and roles have not been responsive nor trustworthy enough, students need other avenues for self-advocacy and help. Students should not be left stranded to navigate assault or harassment on their own.

A MODERN DRESS CODE. A revised, gender neutral, anti-racist dress code that is consistent across buildings. Rationale: The existing dress codes invalidate self-expression, which leads to a lot of conflict between students and administrators. CH-UH dress codes vary by building, are outdated, use binary language, and promote the objectification of students’ bodies when enforced.

ACCOUNTABILITY AND CONSEQUENCES. Accountability for trusted adults (coaches, administrators, Miramar staff) who failed to be trustworthy; who minimize sexual violence and protect perpetrators; who undermine safety plans for victims; who fail to protect victims when they violate mandated reporting and Title IX laws. Rationale: There are inequitable realities and outcomes for victims and perpetrators. Coaches protect perpetrator- athletes from consequences; perpetrators are allowed to participate in extracurriculars while victims are not able to participate due to the trauma; and victims have educational losses and interruptions while perpetrators continue as if nothing happened.

When trusted adults shame & blame victims, protect perpetrators from consequences, and minimize sexual violence, they compound victims’ trauma. This makes school a traumatizing place. Some students drop out, switch to homeschooling, change schools, or their families move to other towns.

This needs to stop. Enough is Enough!
