Welcome to a two-day tour of Britain’s kept biking secret – the roads, routes and scenery in the counties of Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders in southern Scotland – as special guests of Front End Chatter, Britain’s favourite motorcycling podcast, in our FECed Up The Borders Tour 2024.

Podcast hosts Simon Hargreaves (ex-Performance Bikes and Bike magazine) and Martin-Fitz-Gibbons (ex-Bike magazine) would love to have your company and to ride together on two day-long loops of the region, taking in truly outstanding motorcycling roads and unexpectedly spectacular scenery. Relatively undiscovered, the mountains, hills, lakes and forests of the region, just across the border with England, are criss-crossed with tip-top tarmac but refreshingly free of tourist traffic – meaning more space to unwind and let your bike do the talking.

The tour kicks off with an optional ride-in starting at Scotch Corner on the A1, taking in a superb section of Pennines riding before heading up to the border with Scotland at Carter Bar. From here we head across picturesque hills and valleys, through forests and alongside rivers towards our base for the tour, the bike-friendly Buccleuch Hotel in Moffat. Here, with special motorcycle-centric hospitality from GS-riding Dave, we’ll enjoy three nights of top food, drink and chat, with a live recording of the Front End Chatter podcast on the final evening.

Each day we’ll head out into a different area of the surrounding scenery, specially selected by Simon and Martin to bring a smile to your face and give you a riding experience you won’t forget – roaming up towards Edinburgh, taking in the famous Devil’s Beeftub and parts of Britain’s second-longest B-road, before dropping back down and round through Hawick, home of TT legend Steve Hislop. The landscape is dramatic and steeped in ancient history, with plenty of castle and points of interest to stop and investigate.

Day two will see us venture west into Dumfries and Galloway Forest Park, with a ride-ranging ride along the famous Queen’s Way, taking in the Dalveen Pass, the Solway Coast and the Forest Park itself. It’s all set in outstanding scenery, and the riding takes us from fast and flowing to tight and twisty tarmac, through tall pine forests and up long, open hillsides, past reservoirs and through deep green valleys. It’s astonishing this part of the country isn’t better-known – but it’s better for us it isn’t!

After check-out on the final day, your hosts will lead an optional final ride back to Scotch Corner along yet another astonishing set of roads around Kielder Forest Park, before a final farewell at the A1.

The FEC’d Up The Borders Tour is a perfect, pocket-sized ride-out to guide you round a stunning part of the country few people visit, with the Buccleuch’s famous motorcycling hospitality, and which will leave you wanting to come back and visit again.
