This week-long intensive introduces the tenets of Happy Valley Improv, teach the fundamental concepts and skills of improv, and establish an understanding of improv as it is differentiated from other forms of comedy performance such as standup and sketch. This week-long intensive builds on the tenets of Happy Valley Improv, and focuses on the art of short-form improviation. Students should complete the week with practice and competency in:

June 26 - 30 & August 14th - 18th | Long-Form Improv
This week-long intensive builds on the tenets of Happy Valley Improv, and focuses on the art of long-form improviation. Students should complete the week with practice and competency in:

- Adopting a “yes, and” stance
- Practicing and performing in service to the collective
- Listening to scene partners and contributing to scenes
- Accepting differences and interacting with others non-evaluatively
- Having stage presence (Using our bodies and voices to invite audience members into scenes)
- How to be a supportive audience member

- Understanding the rules and how to play multiple short-form games.
- Knowing how to host multiple short-form games.
- Producing a short-form improv show.
- Creating a unique short-form improv game of their own.

- Developing the group mind of a long-form improv ensemble.
- Creating a unique long-form improv set.
- Producing a long-form improv show.

Foundations Camp
Students will practice working together, taking risks in a supportive environment, and nurturing their creativity through a variety of improv exercises and scenes. Most of all, they'll have fun! Five, 2.5-hour sessions that introduce the tenets of Happy Valley Improv, teach the fundamental concepts and skills of improv, and establish an understanding of longform improv as it is differentiated from other forms of comedy performance such as shortform, standup, and sketch. Students should complete the course with practice and competency in:
Short-Form Intensive This five-day camp will teach students how to craft jokes and sets drawing upon their own experiences, observations, and thoughts. They will also work on developing stage presence and becoming more comfortable performing in front of an audience. Finally, the camp will include discussions about "smart comedy" and playing to the "top of your intelligence." The standup camp will be run by James Tierney, who has been doing standup comedy for years and has run standup classes for adults as well as taught last year's camp. COVID-19 Protective Measures The health and safety of students is the number one concern of Happy Valley Improv. The Blue Brick Theatre requires all participants to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Each camp will be limited to fifteen (15) campers. We will follow CDC, state, and local guidelines on social distancing, masking, and hygiene. If you have specific questions, concerns, or requests regarding protocols, please reach out to us at happyvalleyimprov@gmail.com. Cost Registration is $200. Scholarships are available! If your student would like to attend but you cannot afford the full amount, please reach out to us. We will work with you to find a solution.
