NORWICH & NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — Court documents outline the insurance fraud case against six men who are from Norwich and New London.

McKenzy Noze, Jonas Joseph, Frandy Dugue, Carlins Calixte, Jacques Fleurijeune, and Pierre Jeudy are facing multiple mail and wire fraud charges for what the feds say was a scheme to stage car accidents to collect insurance money.

“It’s very disconcerting and you get angry when you see stuff like that,” says Paul Trehern who has worked for Massad Insurance in New London for more than 25 years.

He says insurance fraud is a big problem in the industry. “Hurts the insurance companies and it hurts the consumer for rising costs,” says Trehern.

That’s why he says insurance companies have their own investigators on staff.

“Their job is to break down the claim, get a timeline, put all the facts together, and try to find out if it’s legitimate or not,” says Trehern.

Connecticut U.S. Attorney Deirdre Daly says the men planned fifty crashes starting in April 2011. Most were single vehicle accidents on remote roads with no witnesses. The indictment says they then collected payouts for property damage and bodily injury ranging from $6,500 to $30,000 per accident.

“Conflicting stories that’s usually what trips people up a lot,” says Trehern.

He tries to make sure his clients are not a high risk for fraud by asking a lot of questions when they take out a policy. But he says you can also buy insurance online.

“My 12 year old daughter can probably figure it out and do it which is kind of scary,” says Trehern.

One suspect, Jonas “James” Joseph, is still at large. If you know where he is you are asked to contact prosecutors or Norwich police.
