Horizon 2020 Entrepreneurship for Researchers Workshop

Part of: The European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, under agreement number 739572

PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is open to researchers and managers from Portuguese universities only!

The highly interactive workshop will cover new ways in which leading Portuguese researchers can successully develop entrepreneurial mindset and skills.

This event is the second in the series of exploratory events aimed to inform the future needs of the Portuguese partner communities, communicating the Discoveries CTR project.

The overall purpose of the workshop is to provide a taster for the type of support available to to help commerialise research and to initiate connections amongst the partners who will eventually form the Discoveries Centre in Portugal.

The programme is delivered as a mini accelerator. Participants will form teams and will be guided through the various stages of commercialisation and strartup building.

A maximum of 50 delegates, including researchers and managers from Portuguese institutions are invited to participate.

Format (duration, etc.)

Taking place over one and a half days, you will need to attend each day to complete the course. There will also be the opportunity to network with researchers and managers from Portuguese Universities.

Venue:

A networking dinner will take place at the end of day one - Thursday 24 January (Restaurante Golf Sport). Please note: delegates will need to budget for the cost of their evening dinner (25€) and reclaim through their normal channels at home institutions.

About the course

This programme will assist you in recognising and exploring the entrepreneurial skills you use in research. On the first day, there will be a workshop looking at creating a minimum viable product and validating the business model. Workshops thereafter will look at protecting and commercialising intellectual property, what makes a great founder, sales and marketing and funding.

Learning Outcomes

After attending the programme, you will be able to:

  • Build and/or develop your own entrepreneurial skill set
  • Deal with the changing research landscape with more confidence using your entrepreneurial skills
