Iowa Administrative Rules for Special Education

Assistive technology.--(AT): products, equipment, and systems that enhance learning, working, and daily living for persons with disabilities.

Assistive technology device: The term `assistive technology device' means any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. 

Assistive technology supports:  Events or tasks that the learner needs to complete in order to take advantage of or respond to educational programs and opportunities. Assistive technology supports are provided for the learner to have access to the general education curriculum and assessment. They are less regular and less systematic than services, therefore, do not need to be linked to a goal, do not require a designated number of minutes, or dot not require progress monitoring.
