Help raise funds for Mia’s surgery

Mia is a 2 year old baby girl diagnosed with a Congenital Pulmonary Airway Malformation (CPAM). On the last week of July she was brought to the hospital due to cellulitis and later found out that she has a congenital air cyst on her upper right lung. Currently her upper right lung is not functioning due to the cyst and is on high risk of getting infections and possibility of the cyst rupturing inside her lung. We are trying to raise funds to get her surgery done as soon as possible to avoid any life-threatening complications.

What is congenital pulmonary airway malformation?

Congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM) is a rare congenital birth defect that includes a mass of abnormal lung tissue. A cystic mass is a noncancerous tumor that is filled with fluid or other material (in Mia's case it's air). In CPAM, the cystic mass cannot function as normal lung tissue.

Where does CPAM occur?

In most cases, CPAM is in only one of the lungs. (Less than 2 percent are in both lungs.) In 80 to 95 percent of cases, it is only present in one lobe of the affected lung. The right lung has three lobes, and the left lung has two lobes. CPAM can affect any of these lobes.

What causes CPAM?

We do not know what causes CPAM. We do know that it is not related to anything the mother did or did not do during pregnancy.

As the doctor's recommendation, baby Mia will need to undergo VA Thoracic Surgery and this costs around Php 800,000 to Php 900,000 (inclusive of hospitalization and doctor's fee). Without the surgical intervention, she will be prone to recurring infections (pneumonia) and a chance the cyst to rupture if neglected.
