the project

Milford excitedly welcomes back the 2nd Annual Ladybug Music Festival on September 21, 2019.  The largest celebration of women in music, this award-winning, all-ages, free block party concert is organized by Downtown Milford, Inc. and Gable Music Ventures.  Our inaugural year in 2018 was a great success and brought over 3,000 people to the streets, stores and restaurants of Milford.  Some 40 musical acts and groups performed at various venues throughout Downtown.  The bands are comprised of all female groups or groups featuring female leads.  They represent all genres of music, boasting something for everyone.  Our goal is to make “Milford” synonymous with Music Festivals in Southern Delaware and the funds raised during this campaign will help us build on last year's success to do just that.  The visibility this type of event can provide is paramount to the economic growth of the City.  We are, therefore, asking businesses, residents and supporters, to contribute to this fundraising effort to ensure this year’s event exceeds last year’s and that the Ladybug Music Festival is here to stay.  All contributions, large and small, will be greatly appreciated!

why we're doing it

The Ladybug Music Festival is an annual event celebrating women in music.  The event was created in 2012 by Gable Music Ventures as a block party for the residents of the 2nd & Loma neighborhood in Downtown Wilmington, Delaware.  An estimated 300 people attended the event, packing each of the five businesses and giving a much needed boost to the small businesses on the block during a very slow time of year. Every year Gable Music has worked to expand the scope of the event, and the reaction from the community has been incredible with attendance doubling every year since 2012, from approximately 300 to approximately 10,000 in 2017 when the event expanded and added a second day.

In 2018, the event expanded again to Southern Delaware and 14 small businesses benefited from 3000 people roaming our Downtown streets.  After the event, we determined approxiomately 50% had never been to Milford, DE before the Festival.  The goal of the Ladybug Music Festival is to provide women an outlet to show off their remarkable talents, but a positive side effect was a one-day economic boost to our Downtown and our faithful merchants.  The 2019 event is bound to be another smashing success and we're hopeful the community will agree to support our efforts to provide these women a place to perform, these merchants a place to show off their hard work, and the residents and visitors of Milford a Festival to enjoy the Downtown.
