alligatortek Recognized as the Winner of 2015 Microsoft Innovative Technology for Good Citizenship Partner of the Year Award

Chicago Software Solutions Company Selected Among 2,300 Entrants Worldwide for Work with National Nonprofit Feeding America

CHICAGO--()--alligatortek today announced it has won the 2015 Microsoft Innovative Technology for Good Citizenship Partner of the Year Award for its work with Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. alligatortek, a leading software solutions company, was honored among a global field of top Microsoft partners for demonstrating excellence in innovation and implementation of customer solutions based on Microsoft technology. Awards were presented in several categories, with award winners for 49 different categories chosen from a set of more than 2,300 entrants from 108 different countries worldwide.

alligatortek created a Produce Donor Portal for the Feeding America network of 200 food banks which together distribute four billion pounds of food to people in need. The Portal has benefitted Feeding America by reducing its offer-vetting process – between produce donors, distribution centers and food banks – from one week to a few minutes. It has also helped to increase the network’s reach. Currently, Feeding America has about 150 produce donors that provide products to member food banks across the United States, but with alligatortek’s portal, it expects to efficiently process between 1,000 and 5,000 donors – a 3,333 percent increase in produce donors which will lead to a significant increase in the amount of produce it can help provide to people facing hunger.

The Produce Donor Portal was built using a broad array of Microsoft technologies and employs Microsoft SQL Server to support its data infrastructure. In addition, alligatortek built upon the base with application development tools including Microsoft Visual Studio and Microsoft ASP.Net. A cloud-based solution, the portal is leveraged by Feeding America across Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Azure.

“We are truly honored and humbled to be recognized by Microsoft for our work with such an important organization like Feeding America,” said Sid Bala, President and CEO of alligatortek. “By using Microsoft’s leading technology, we created a custom software solution that streamlines the food donation process between donors, farmers and food pantries, helping Feeding America achieve its goal of getting more food to more people in need.”

Feeding America is particularly focused on getting more fresh fruits and vegetables to the people it serves—and alligatortek’s portal helps to ensure that produce reaches people facing hunger before it spoils.

“Each year more than 6 billion pounds of produce are wasted while at the same time 49 million people in our country face hunger,” said Dan Krohm, Vice President of Coordinated Procurement and Process Improvement for Feeding America. “Consequently, it’s important that we rescue surplus produce as quickly as possible, so we can get it onto the plates of people who need it. alligatortek created a software solution that enables us to do just that. Through an application that donors can access at any time and on any device, we are able to rescue food from farms and other food sources more quickly than ever before.”

“Microsoft’s success as a company is dependent upon our ecosystem of great partners, and alligatortek is a shining example of the kind of innovation our partners continue to drive year after year,” said Phil Sorgen, Corporate Vice President, Worldwide Partner Group, Microsoft Corp. “We are pleased to recognize alligatortek for being selected as the winner of the 2015 Microsoft Innovative Technology for Good Citizenship award and for demonstrating excellence in providing value to our mutual customers.”

In addition to the Microsoft Partner of the Year Award, alligatortek was recently awarded the 2014 People’s Choice Award at the Chicago Innovation Awards for the Feeding America project. alligatortek was also named one of the Top 50 employers for Gen Y Emerging Talent and is the winner of the 2014 Chicago’s Best of the Best Small Businesses Award.
