Raising Youth Voices in their fight again climate change and the mountains we must climb to be heard and make change!

This 10 week program will be a partnership with between Halifax Regional Arts, Neptune Theatre School and Neptune Tour Co. Students will use the process of play creation to explore climate change advocacy. Improv games, character creation, movement, writing and play development will all be explored and we answer the questions:

What are my biggest concerns about Climate Change?

What do I do to make myself heard?

How often and how am I silenced?

What actions can I take?

What actions do I see others taking?

What is your history with the land you live on and go to school? What value does it have to you?

What affect does your privilege in hurting the environment?

What other changes do you want to see in our society in the next 10 years?

By the end of 10 weeks we will have an assortment of scenes, monologues, spoken word, songs, dances, creations, that will act as a catalyst for a full length play for Neptune Tour Co.

Logan RObins

“Logan (he/him) is an (aspiring to being award winning) theatre creator based in

Kjipuktuk/Halifax. He graduated from the Fountain School of Performing Arts with an honours BA in theatre (with a minor in English and a failed attempt at a BSc in Marine Biology) and studied puppetry at The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia.

He spends much of his time imagining fascinating stories to direct, write, or puppeteer and knowing a lot more about theatre than whale behaviour.

Collaborate with him, he’s a lot of fun.

IVY CHARLES

Ivy Charles discovered her passion for acting right here at Neptune, attending classes every year from ages 5-15, and later began working here as an instructor. She graduated from the Acting Program at the Fountain School of Performing Arts in 2016 before heading to Glasgow for her Master of Arts in Acting at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. During her Masters, she completed a placement at the Stratford Festival, and performed on Shakespeare’s Globe stage in London. Ivy has training in Mask work, Clown/Physical Theatre, Shakespeare, stage combat, and collective creation, and has also trained in puppetry at the Mermaid Institute of Puppetry Arts.

Ivy is passionate about climate justice - an interest which began as a member of the theatre troupe Mindshift in high school - and has volunteered with Extinction Rebellion as an organizer and actor in public performance art pieces. She is deeply moved and inspired by all the brilliant youth who are speaking out for this beautiful planet, and can’t wait to get started with Climb It!

Ivy’s most recent theatre credits include The Butterfly Effect and The Encounters of an Adventurous Snail (Unnatural Disaster Theatre Co), As You Like It (Read for the Globe), and Moonchild (Villain’s Theatre).
