It doesn't look much but the Oasis outdoor skatepark is the best skatepark in Swindon which people can use for free. There's always been a skatepark at the Oasis since it was built in 1976 but now it looks as if it's going without replacement in a planned new development of the site. So far the plans show no free outdoor skatepark, BMX track or cycle speedway. 

Children and adults from all over the town centre come together daily to use this skatepark from all different walks of life.

Some will argue that this skatepark is an embarrassment to Swindon when you see what other skateparks in other much smaller towns and villages look like, but this is what Swindon has to offer and it needs protecting, saving and hopefully improving for future generations.

The sad thing is that it looks as if the skatepark will be taken away by developers who won't spare any space to save our skatepark and the BMX and cycle speedway tracks on the current Oasis site. Looking at the plans there's no room for the free outdoor skatepark, BMX track or cycle speedway. 

As someone who knows a lot of children and adults who regularly use this spot - We know that if it's taken away there will be no suitable place for these riders to practice their sport in Swindon which may resort to people riding around the town centre again causing annoyance.

Saving this skatepark will mean the people of Swindon will have a safe place to practice their sports which keep them off the streets and healthy. Losing will mean Swindon has failed their youth and sport section in its entirety.

We should be promoting any free activity which encourages children and adults to exercise.

Lets call on Swindon Borough Council and the developers to save this skatepark and while we are at it save the BMX track and also the cycle speedway next to it which are both unique facilities for their users.
