One of Us
Stories of Friends & Family of LGBT Individuals in SINGAPORE
A Project By MOVE Community
Proudly Supported by Project 50/100
“One Of Us” is a project that showcases real life stories of family, friends and colleagues of LGBT people. Told from the perspective of non-LGBT persons, these stories relate how mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters, and other relatives, as well as friends and colleagues, find out about, react to, perhaps cope with or are transformed by a LGBT person in their lives. These poignant vignettes of discovery, revelation and confession, doubt and crisis, worry and fear, and ultimately of love and its triumph over all else are an affirmation of our common humanity. They send the message that for each person in these stories, the LGBT individual is not apart, and that though different in some aspects from a straight person, this person is “One of Us”. We hope these moving portraits will serve to make it easier for LGBT people as well as their family, friends and colleagues to find resolution and affirmation in their lives.
“One of Us” is a project initiated by MOVE Community partnering with SAFE Singapore and supported by Project 50/100. We welcome suggestions and collaborations from both LGBT and non-LGBT partners to make this project as complete and as meaningful as possible.
