Adopt-A-Park & Volunteering

Mahalo for your interest in volunteering to help improve our City parks! Volunteers are everyday citizens and clubs who want to give back to the community to clean our parks and public areas. The Department of Parks and Recreation welcomes the help of volunteers to compliment our maintenance staff and keep up with the demand for recreation areas. Many hands working together make for light work.

You can contribute in a number of ways; one of the easiest ways is to pick-up litter at a City park when you have free time. There are plenty of other possibilities for volunteer opportunities, including: raking leaves, painting buildings/benches/other park amenities, or removing graffiti.

Depending on your level of commitment, you can either choose to conduct a Community Service Project or engage in a more formal Adopt-A-Park Agreement. A Community Service Project is a one-time cleanup or revitalization effort. You may certainly organize several Community Service Projects, but if you are committed to regular improvement efforts at a specific location then we recommend pursuing an Adopt-A-Park Agreement. Having an agreement helps to establish a more fundamental relationship and understanding with our park staff, so that you your work can be done more efficiently and with better coordination. It’s a win-win situation!

Mahalo again for researching and pursuing ways to improve our City parks. Together we can all help to mālama ‘āina (respect the land) and continue to keep O‘ahu beautiful!
