Research Ethics Compliance

EMU maintains compliance with federal regulations by conducting independent ethics and regulatory reviews of all human subject research. Any research involving human subjects that is being publicly disseminated needs to have been approved through the Human Subjects Research Committee (HSRC) You can find more information at the Office of Research Development and Administration

Research Compliance webpage.

Does your research require ANY involvement of human subjects?*
Have you received ethics approval (IRB/UHSRC) to conduct research with human subjects?*

If you have not received IRB approval, and would still like to present at the Undergraduate Symposium, there are two (2) options.

Option #1

Get UHSRC approval. You can receive approval to use data previously collected for non-research purposes (e.g. classroom project data that you then decide to present at Undergraduate Symposium). The Office of Research Development and Administration Website on Human Subjects can guide you thru the process of seeking UHRSC approval.

Option #2

Present on your research plan, how you conducted the research, what you personally learned, but eliminate the sharing of IRB regulated data and/or the results.

If you are unsure of, or have questions about this process, please contact the Office of Research Compliance at (734) 487-0090, or research.compliance@emich.edu.
