Transforming Ministry Conference IV

We invite you to participate in the Transforming Ministry Conference IV this coming May 26-28 in Glendale, CA. at Glendale United Methodist Church.

TM4 will offer a unique opportunity for participants to enter into meaningful dialogue with the bishops of the Western Jurisdiction.  Prompted by requests from past participants, the College of Bishops has agreed to spend a full day with TM4 to:

  • Dialogue and reflect on the future of the church and Episcopal expectations of clergy in current and future contexts
  • Converse about issues that matter to participants

Do not miss this unique opportunity to engage our Episcopal leaders!

Bishops attending are:
Bishop Warner Brown of the California-Nevada Area
Bishop Minerva Carcaņo of the California-Pacific Area
Bishop Grant Hagiya of the Greater Northwest Area
Bishop Bob Hoshibata of the Desert Southwest Area
Bishop Elaine Stanovsky of the Mountain Sky Area

This year's participants will also have an opportunity to visit DreamWorks, the home of Shrek and faith-oriented films like Prince of Egypt and the new VeggieTales Show, for a time of learning and exploration. During our tour of DreamWorks we will hear some of the world’s premiere storytellers share about how they create characters and worlds that people find useful in their lives.  Learn the guidelines of transformational storytelling in a 21st Century context.

As like last year, we will be offering grants to help fund an innovative ministry. We want to capture some of that creative energy by offering micro-grants to participants. Three grants will be given for up to $1000 dollars each to help winners kick off a creative idea for ministry reaching out to new people.
One grant will be for the idea most likely to succeed (selected by the Bishops).
One grant will be for the most out-of-the-box idea (selected by the developers).
One grant will be “the people’s choice” (selected by the conference participants).

You might want to be thinking about an idea before you arrive. Coaching will be available during the event for people who want to develop their ideas. Applicants will be offered an opportunity to pitch their idea in a 10 minute pitch to the whole group. Grants will be announced just before the closing of the conference.

Transforming Ministry IV will begin at 11 AM on Tuesday, May 26 and conclude at 1 PM on Thursday, May 28.

Cost for the three day event is $350 per person, which includes all lunches and one dinner. Hotel and travel are at participant's expense. We have secured a hotel rate of $169 per night (excluding taxes) at the Glendale Hilton. Rates are for either one or two adult guests per room. Click here to make reservations at the Hilton. The group code is CPCUMC.

Those who plan on flying in for the conference should book their flights into the Burbank/Bob Hope airport. There is a shuttle to the Hilton, and it is the closest airport to Glendale UMC, where the conference will be held.
