Cleveland man fatally shot walking home from work

Jason Cummings

CLEVELAND --- A 29-year-old Olivet Avenue man was fatally shot last night during a

robbery

.

At 11:40 p.m., Jason Cummings was walking home from his job at a barbershop, Lt. Thomas Stacho said. Cummings was walking south on East 108th Street.

An armed man walked up behind him and said, "lay it down," Stacho said, which is street slang for "you're being robbed."

Cummings tried to run, Stacho said, but was shot in the back of his left thigh, a coroner's spokesman said. He was alert and talking to paramedics when they arrived at the 10700 block of Olivet. He was taken to Huron Hospital about midnight and pronounced dead at 12:45 this morning.

No arrests have been made.

The coroner's office said Cummings was married and lived in an apartment on Cambridge Lane in Warrensville Heights.
