Description

Experience the magic of GPS audio walks, cycles, drives and even boat rides with VoiceMap tours in over 350 destinations worldwide. They’re like podcasts that move with you, to tell stories about what you’re seeing right now.

VoiceMap’s tours are produced by insightful local storytellers, including journalists, filmmakers, novelists, podcasters, and tour guides. Sir Ian McKellen has even created a tour. It's around London's West End, where he’s performed for over 50 years.

Features:

• Explore at your own pace. Start and stop tours whenever you like, then use the resume option to pick up exactly where you left off.
• With GPS autoplay, you can focus on your surroundings, not the screen. Tap on Start, and let VoiceMap guide you.
• VoiceMap works offline. After you download a tour, the audio will be available offline along with an offline map.
• If you do go off in the wrong direction, VoiceMap plays an audio alert, and you can follow the map on your screen to the next location.
• Listen to tours as many times as you like both in the destination and in virtual tour mode at home.
• With over 1,200 free and paid tours, VoiceMap offers huge variety

Reviews and Testimonials:

“High-quality self-guided walking tours...Narrated by local experts, they provide insight into corners of the city sometimes overlooked by regular guided tours.”
Lonely Planet

“We may be biased, but could there be anything more helpful than having a journalist in your pocket when touring a new city? How about a historian, a novelist or just a really passionate local? VoiceMap culls city-specific stories from them all and fits them neatly into walking tours.”
New York Times

“My wife and I really enjoyed exploring Bruges at our own pace with this audio tour, and there were some memorable stories that the narrator shared. Also, the app worked great in relation to the location-based services. We easily followed the map and the audio was triggered in the appropriate spots. In comparison to the packs of people wandering the city with tour guides, this was a much better fit for us.”
Viator review, Rick A

“Brilliant. Can go at your own pace, good information and took us to places we would never have found ourselves.”
Tripadvisor review, Ravin D

“It was enjoyable to be under no time pressure to freely roam the city of Pisa as we so pleased. Wandering from attraction to attraction. The app is clever, concise and easy to use! Would do again - especially with another person or solo traveler.”
GetYourGuide review, Grace L

“Great quality information - interesting and entertaining. The time flew by. And no waffle! This is far better than any other guided tour we found - they are much more expensive and far less informative. And you can do this tour any time, any day, at your own pace, and even do it twice!”
Tripadvisor review, Carcassonne 's Medieval Walls: A Self-Guided Tour

“Great value for money, interesting and very clear and easy to follow! I learnt lots about London I didn't already know and I have lived here over 30 years.”
London’s Alternative History Tour, Carmella V.

“I loved the tour, bought all of the New Orleans ones you had and have already recommended it to two people. I will without a doubt continue to use the app.”
Faith & Courage: Metairie Cemetery Stories, Jeremy L

“Loved this! Real eye opener for me as a new resident of Singapore who thought this only an island of foodies and engineers. LOL! Please produce more soon!”
Artoholic Singapore, Craig DeLarge

** Just so you know, GPS runs in the background while you're on a tour. This decreases battery life and it's best to start a tour with your device fully charged.

Excellent tour of Toulouse - not to be missed

For first time or return visitors, this is an excellent VoiceMap tour of the old city center area of Toulouse. Not only is Elyse an excellent historian/art historian, but she also gives wonderful context to the buildings, but also adds details and notes of places you might want to pause at or return to after the tour to take a closer look. Also don’t miss her conversations that you can access through the website and podcast called Join Us in France. There are many episodes that take place in Toulouse and great ideas for day trips in and around Toulouse.

Solid core but a little rough around the edges

I've followed a couple of tours and found their content to be good. The app itself is easy to use on the whole, but I wish you could open up the directions to the starting point in Google Maps as I don't have Apple Maps installed on my phone. Some indication of the cardinal direction to the starting point (if navigating without using a map) would also be appreciated (e.g. "30 yards to the north" rather than just "30 yards away"). And this is quite minor, but I don't need to receive the whole "You've paused the tour. To resume..." spiel every time I pause. Once when you first use the app or even once every day or tour would probably be sufficient to remind most people. Lastly, there seems to be a minor bug with the download status where it shows the last map segment (I think it was the map) as not having completely downloaded until I restart the app. That happened for both tours I downloaded.

Good app with potential to be excellent

Let me to start off by saying that functionality wise, this is a very exciting app. The audio synced to location works well and it’s an exciting way to explore a city on your own if you don’t wish to do an organized group walking tour. The tours I took through this app in Granada, Spain completely enhanced my trip to the city taking me to places I wouldn’t go on my own and giving me a ton of great information in the history of the city. That said, I found that the tours for other cities I used the app in (Seville and Madrid) were much less successful. This app runs on free lance content and it’s missing a lot of basic walking tours for popular tourist cities, and some of the tours it does offer for those cities are too niche to be appealing for most users. Hopefully this will change in the future if the app continues to attract creators but right now it’s missing some key content.
