The 25th March marks FND Awareness Day in the UK, and we are now in the 8th year of facilitating activities to raise much needed awareness of Functional Neurological Disorder.

Functional Neurological Disorder is a brain network disorder, and can affect anyone of any age. The neurological symptoms for many are severe and disabling, and life changing for all. Access to specialist care, or lack of appropriate care, continues to be a serious issue in most parts of the UK. Awareness day allows us as a community to come together and be the #Voices4FND to influence change.

Prevalence is currently unknown due to the lack of regional reporting, however Neurologists will see cases in their clinics frequently. Sadly though, receiving the diagnosis proceeds no further for many as there is still little knowledge or awareness of FND. This leads to many being left struggling on their own, desperately trying to find any care and support which may help them. FND Action advocate for accessible specialist collaborative care for ALL those who have been diagnosed, to ensure they are given the best opportunity to a quality of life that is maintainable.

We welcome you to join us on the 25th March to help raise much needed awareness of FND.

Here are some ways you can get involved in FND Awareness Day:

Join FND Awareness Day UK online Event

Each year on awareness day we collaborate with FND Dimensions and FND FrieNDs to host an online event. This year our topic is #Thenandnow and we have 3 great speakers!

Note: all sessions are being recorded and will be available to watch online after the event. Professor Stone will also be answering pre-submitted questions – link on event page.

Other Activities:

Share your story

Writing about your experience and sharing it with others is just one of many ways you can help raise awareness. It allows others to have an insight into what it may feel like to be walking in your shoes.

Our focus this year is #Thenandnow, and we invite you to share your story of living with FND – from how it began, to where you are now, to where you want to be.

To submit your story please use the link below, and they will be shared across our social media sites on awareness day.

If you share your own story on social media, please don’t forget to use the hashtag #Voices4FND, and/or #Thenandnow, so we can repost them.

#InformTheDoctor

In October 2022, FND Action launched a campaign to provide an information sheet of current information relating to FND, for people diagnosed to inform their doctors.

There is still a great need for medical professionals to be informed, and to dispel inaccurate information that can lead to people being without appropriate care, or worse still no care at all.

There are 3 options. Download the sheet and hand it to your doctor at an appointment, send it to your doctor via email or mail, or we will send it to a specific doctor, clinic, department, etc on your behalf (no personal information will be shared).
