Six students from four area school districts who attend the Capital Region BOCES Network Cabling Technician & Smart Home Technology program recently earned professional certifications that will advance their careers and boost their higher education.
The students in Ed Henson’s program on the Schoharie Career and Technical School Campus earned the C-TECH Energy Management and Smart Home Technologies Certification and the C-TECH Wireless Systems Certification – Antenna Installation and Troubleshooting. RCS senior Christopher Rarick received certification in both categories.
Mr. Rarick says the program and the certifications will prepare him for his future career opportunities. “I feel like this has already helped me reach my goals and taught me everything I need to know to get started in wiring and cabling,” Rarick said.
Launched with the start of the 2019-20 school year, six students from four school districts are currently learning everything from network cabling using copper-based systems to applied systems integration to energy management systems and telephone systems.
The program was launched at the behest of regional business leaders who are in need of workers. It will relocate to the Albany Campus in the fall to better accommodate those requests.
