Statement of Teaching Philosophy

As an engineering educator my personal vision is to ‘To mould students and teach them in a way that creates passion and enthusiasm for lifelong learning’.

I strongly believe that a teacher must set an example for students. Students always look up to a teacher. I believe that barely providing information given in the textbook would not motivate them to be involved in a class. Thus I strongly believe in the notion of Explore Mould and Excel.

A good teacher is the one who Explores new methods of teaching, Moulds students both technically and intellectually and thus helps him/her to Excel.

The following are some of the needs of the students

· A teacher, who is approachable and available at all times

· A teacher who is transparent in every interaction

· A teacher who gives materials, opportunities, and feedback that will help them grow

· Additional classes (remedial or tutorial classes) for a subject

Concrete Plans

· To create active participants in a class. This is possible only when students are able to understand, relate to what they have already learned and apply what they have been doing. Therefore I plan to incorporate active learning in every class of mine

· Be accessible to students at all times: display my timetable on the door of my cabin and by sharing my contact details

· Conduct remedial classes for under performers.

· Giving miscellaneous problems to students with higher caliber.

· Being transparent in all my interactions with students

Identification of areas for personal improvement

I strive to professionally update my knowledge by taking additional courses, advancing my degree and attending workshops and conferences with my peers. This will help me exchange ideas and theories and learn new things in order to give my students the most up to date information possible.

Short term Goals

· Identify students with different learning capacities by designing class activities such as group discussion and thus help them learn as per their need.

· Explore new methodologies to take up a class and create situations where students can apply what they learn

· Design class activities that enhances interpersonal and technical skills of the students

Long term personal Goals

· To offer add on courses in my department after completion of my certification exams

· To be an active researcher and practitioner of Outcome based Education
